  • The UNEP writes that “The amount of money lost due to environmental crime is 10,000 times greater than the amount of money spent by international agencies on combatting it – just $20-30 million.”
    Environmental crime, “which includes the illegal trade in wildlife, corporate crime in the forestry sector, the illegal exploitation and sale of gold and other minerals, illegal fisheries, the trafficking of hazardous waste and carbon credit fraud – is growing two to three times faster than global GDP.”
  • Nice history lesson by Spencer Banzhaf from RFF on environmental economics.
  • A (really large) reading list on political ecology by Julian Bloomer. Would be nice to have this in a more structured way – general readings on sub-topics first, and then more specific items.
  • Within the EU and since 2000, employment in the eco-industries has risen by 20 % and produced over 4.2 million jobs.
  • Now Austrians can finally drink with a clean conscience: The world’s first CO2 neutral brewery
  • Ljubljana has been named the European Green Capital of 2016. There are some who feel that `naming and shaming’ cities for their greenliness or pollution is bad practise, but oh man don’t we all love rankings? (Btw – Germany is playing France and Wales is up against Portugal… How will that ranking turn out?)
